Requirements necessary to be able to vote

Before applying of course, you have to fulfill certain requirements to be registered as a voter. You of course need to be an Indian citizen, and you need to have attained the age of 18 years by the qualifying date. That's January 1 of the year the electoral roll is being revised. You also need to be a resident of the polling area of the constituency where you want to be enrolled, and not otherwise disqualified from being an elector.

How to register for voting in 2019 General Election

First visit the website of the National Voter's Service Portal here. Click on the option for "Apply online for registration of new voter/due to shifting from AC". This will open up the Form 6 application in a new tab (Form 6A if you're a non-resident voter). It appears in Hindi by default, so make sure you select your preferred language at the top as per your needs.

Once you hit submit, a post of it will appear on the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) notice board, inviting any objections for a week. After that, your name will be included in the electoral roll and you'll receive an SMS notification on your provided number.

How to find deadlines for registering to vote

The voter list is continuously updated till the last date for candidates to file their nominations, which is about 3 weeks before the polling date. The exact polling dates will be available on eci.gov.in, after the announcement.

In that case, download Form 6 from this official link, or get it from the Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of your constituency, or the Booth Level Officer t your local polling station.
